Day Two - The magic of Redwood Forests [August 22, 2004]
Starting City: Brookings, OR
Ending City: Fort Bragg, CA
Total Miles: 240 (approx)
We woke up to heavy rain that did
not bode well for the reminder of the day. We started driving
south on Hwy 1 around 9:30am, anyways. The California border was only 8
miles away and we were hoping that might turn the weather around.
Kept driving through miles of beautiful beaches and innumerable
road-side traps. We could not do the "Trees of Mystery"
because of the rain even though Paul Banyan and his faithful Babe tried
to convince us very hard. By the time we reached the north end of
Redmond Forests the rain started to mitigate a bit but not enough so we
could get out and enjoy. Later in the day we were able to do a few
things including:

1) Drive-thru shrine ($1.50/person) on the beautiful Avenue of Giants.
2) Several interesting stops on Avenue of Giants like the oldest tree, the tree house,
chimney tree etc.

3) Drive-thru tree at Chadelier ($3.00/car).
Since we had to recover from this dream-like beauty, we finally
rested for the day in Fort Bragg, CA.
