Day Four - Where is the Castle? [August 24, 2004]
Starting City: Monterey, OR
Ending City: San Simeon, CA
Total Miles: 95 (approx)
Another early day and we checked out of the hotel by 9am. Both of us were excited
because the day marked our fourth wedding anniversary!! Started the day by
taking a stroll on and around the Fisherman's Wharf. Got to see a lot of playful seals
in the water.

Then we headed to the
Monterey Bay Acqarium ($19.95/person) which
was full of exotic water creatures and surprisingly well-maintained. We spent an hour
or so watching the little sea otters play and providing ample entertainment for
the onlookers.

Next we headed onto Hwy 1 again, which had by now become my favorite road of all-time:)
We then drove on the world-famous Pebble Beach 17-mile drive for a couple of hours.
The drive was immensely beautiful but not enough to rank as the best part of the trip.

We decided not to buy a
house right on the 17-mile drive because Maanasa did not like the master restroom (just kidding... check-out the hyperlink to see what I mean)
Accidentally drove through the main street of Carmel-by-the-Sea to reach the
most stunning pure white-sand-beach where 100s of people were waiting to watch
what was supposedly the most
beautiful sunset on the planet. We, however, chose to keep driving in order to reach our
final destination for the day, San Simeon. We made brief stops at various points
on the highway to admire the unlimited beauty. Reached the hotel around 8:30pm.
Lodging: Courtesy Inn, San Simeon, CA
Cost of lodging: 49$
